Spring 2010 Class Details & Descriptions

If you attended Fall classes there is no need for a new registration form (unless information needs to be updated), however you must email us ASAP to secure your spot for Spring.

Registration and Payment Deadline:
January 15th

Trial Classes: 
New students are entitled to one free trial class prior to registering for a class or program. There are no trial classes for returning students.

Makeup Policy:

In the case that your child is unable to attend a class, you will have the opportunity to make up a maximum of two classes per semester by attending another class by coordinating with the Little Masters staff. Please let the Little Masters staff know about any predetermined vacation plans in the beginning of the Spring semester in order to take advantage of possible prorating options prior to your payment for the class.

Specials:

  • Registration fee is waived for returning students.
  • Registration fee will be waived for new students who register prior to January 1st.
  • Sign up for back-to-back art and music classes and receive a $50 discount.
  • Sibling Rates: Receive 10% off second child’s class.
  • Referral Special: Refer a friend and receive $25 off your child’s enrollment fee or apply the discount to your next semester at Little Masters.

Busy Bees: On My Own (Art & Music)
Mondays & Wednesdays, 10:00am – 11:45am
Ages: 3 – 4 years
Tuition: $750 (one day option), $1,400 (two day option)

Designed for children who are ready to take their first steps towards a preschool atmosphere, this program will help children grow and expand their own abilities and experiences through activities in art and music. Art classes are evenly balanced between a guided lesson in either painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, multi-media works or printing and open activity time in which the children will be encouraged to apply what they have learned during the lesson portion. The music class is a bilingual class that allows children to learn Spanish through songs and musical play concentrating on the development of imagination. Children will start developing vocal awareness and explore a variety of traditional and nontraditional sound sources. Take advantage of the ballet class immediately following this program for more Little Masters learning and fun!

 
Morning Masters: Art, Music & Lunch
Tuesdays, 11:00am – 1:15pm
Ages: 4 - 5 years

This program is tailor made for children that already have experience in art and music and are prepared to augment their skills and capabilities in a truly creative environment. Children will begin with a lesson in art which utilizes art history as a way to inspire each child to create art projects that are ambitious, inventive and steeped in observation of both the art history focal point of the week as well as the everyday modern world. They will be introduced to various drawing techniques through the conduit of a sketch book that is provided at the start of the semester. The music class provides a hands-on immersion into music through creative projects, fun musical games and entertaining activities.  Children will start building a musical vocabulary, experiment with diverse instruments and create simple compositions in order to explore the numerous expressive possibilities of music and to discover the dynamic world of sound that surrounds them. The music lesson will be immediately followed by lunch and story time; lunches are to be provided by parents and must be entirely nut free!

Time for Toddlers*

Make this class your child’s first foray into art. An art experience designed especially for children who will be experiencing art processes in the classroom setting for the first time. All guided activities will provide a solid foundation for children to learn about art processes, materials, techniques and aesthetics while always bearing in mind that art is fun! Toddlers will build their skills in gross and fine motor activities, spatial orientation, color and shape recognition, as well as fostering a healthy sense of independence and self-assuredness.

 
Terrific Twos*
Fridays, 11:00am – 12:00pm

This class is designed to draw upon the curiosity and explorative nature of children. While children are presented with art projects (that are multi-stepped, age appropriate and thematically based) they are also encouraged to explore the art studio during open activity time and learn more about their own abilities and interests. Guided projects will incorporate varied art techniques in painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, printing and multi-media projects that will work to expand your child’s art vocabulary and build their fine motor and sensory skills.

Discover the amazing world of art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art! Each week, students will meet at The Met, visit a different exhibit and explore a specific art movement and artist. They will observe and learn about the history, culture, and technical aspects of the art. The students will also have the opportunity to draw in their individual sketchbooks from the great masterpieces and to create their own artwork inspired by them.

Morning Masters: Hollingworth Group
Tuesdays, 10:00am – 11:00am
Ages: 4 - 5 years

This class is planned and intended for children that attend the Hollingworth Center for Highly Gifted Children. Children in this class will experience art history while creating interesting and ambitious pieces of their own. Each week children will complete a different project in painting, drawing, sculpture or printmaking that in some way incorporates an art technique, material or aesthetic borrowed from the realm of art history and adapted to the skill level and interest of the class as a whole. Children enrolled in this class will also be introduced to various drawing techniques through the conduit of a sketch book that will be utilized during each class period.

Art in the Afternoon
Wednesdays, 4:00pm – 5:00pm (Amanda)
Thursdays, 3:00pm – 4:00pm (Narges)
Ages: 4 - 6 years
Tuition: $400

This class allows children with an interest in art to take their skills and knowledge of artistic processes to the next level. Weekly art projects and activities will be especially designed to challenge young artists and expose them to more advanced artistic methods while still enforcing a strong basis in art history and what it can teach us about our own art. More involved techniques in painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking will enable children in this group to focus more deeply on form, contour, line, depth and perspective. A sketchbook will be provided for each child and will be used during each class session.

Little Big Masters: 2D
Tuesdays, 4:00pm - 5:30pm
Ages: 6 - 12 years
Tuition: $500

Each week a specific art movement and artist will be introduced and reviewed in detail as students explore specific two dimensional techniques in an elaborate and challenging project which will include explorations in drawing, painting, collage, printing, and design in order to develop the student’s awareness and appreciation of different forms of expression, beauty, and creativity.

Little Big Masters: 3D
Thursdays, 4:00pm - 5:30pm
Ages: 6 - 12 years
Tuition: $500

This class will focus on three dimensional works of art. Each week a specific art movement and artist will be introduced as we study their specific sculpting and/or constructing style. We will also develop technical drawing skills in order to plan for the construction of our 3D projects which will include explorations in clay, plaster, wood, stone, metal, paper, cardboard, etc. The projects will keep the students inspired, challenged, and engaged, while they develop creative problem solving skills.

Little Big Masters @ The Met

Little Big Masters: Portfolio Development
Thursdays, 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Ages: 13 - 18 years

Build your portfolio for specialized Art High school or College admissions through rigorous projects. Learn what constitutes portfolio-quality work, and create strong work that best exhibits your style of problem solving. Drawing is the most important aspect of a young artist’s portfolio, therefore we will focus on observational drawing (the human form, nature, still life), as well as composition, color, perspective, and conceptual problem solving. We will use a variety of tools such as pencil, charcoal, pastels, paints, and collage.

M U S I C  C L A S S E S

Toddlers & Twos: Music *
Fridays, 10:15am – 11:00am
Ages: 16 months – 3 years
Tuition: $400

Children are encouraged to sing, dance and play through guided activities that incorporate creative movement, rhymes, dramatic play, musical games and circle songs.  This weekly class is designed for children that are experiencing music at a basic level. Children are exposed to a variety of musical instruments and are encouraged to rhythmically accompany songs using various percussion instruments such as shakers, maracas and small drums, among others.

In this introductory ballet class students will learn to appreciate classical music and self expression through dance. They will learn the fundamentals of ballet and how it can nurture beauty and creativity in movement, develop coordination, and promote self-esteem. Children should wear leotards, tights, ballet slippers, and their hair should be up or tied back.
